I had the chance to spend some with Steve on the phone today and catch up with all of the latest at V-MOD.Com.  I’ve known Steve for quite some time, back to the days when he started V-MOD.Com and I believe that I was one of the first customers for the V-Mod exhaust that have become so popular. Eventually, I switched to the SE VMod and that has been my exhaust of choice ever since. Steve tells me that this product has been a real winner for them and he has shipped these exhaust systems around the world.  I know that I have been very pleased with my setup as they offer great performance, really nice sound and retain the original styling of the Harley Davidson VROD. It has been a great system for street and racing.  I am currently evaluating a new exhaust system in hopes of reducing weight. Steve and I had a fairly extensive conversation comparing notes.  I think that Steve has the most in depth knowledge based upon the dyno work that he has done over the years as well as customer feedback related on virtually every major system on the market. The good news is that Steve has volunteered to write and article for VRODRacing and share his thought on the best system out there.  Our conversation was a good preview of what will come and it will be worth a read when it is ready for prime time.

.Next we talked about the progress on a turbo system that he has had in the development pipeline for awhile now. He told me that version 2 will be ready soon with a number of improvements from the initial prototype. I shared some of my thoughts on styling and it sounds as though some of the issues that I was concerned with will be addressed.  I know that this system (which Steve had posted pictures on VRODForum.com) has some real potential from a styling perspective. The system is designed as a high performance street system with projected RWHP in the 165 range.  I look forward to seeing what is coming!

We had a good conversation related to big-bore and stroker setups.  This has been a great business for Steve and has kept him busy as customers continue to order engine builds. They have certainly gained allot of experience especially building high performance street rods.  Steve is a great person to talk to if you are considering a big bore or stroker setup. He has allot of high performance products available as well as a full range of engine building services from machine work to turn key. He also has experience with various setups and provides straight talk when discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the different alternatives.

Finally we discussed a number of other products including his dry nitrous setup and his steering damper product.  The nitrous product appears to work nicely for a street rod for occasional blast but my guess is that it wouldn’t work as well for a serious drag racing setup, where a wet system with a progressive controller would better meet the demands. Steve tells me that the steering damper has been a hot seller, going out the door as fast as he can produce them. It is on my parts list for next year’s set-up.

It was great t catch up with Steve and I was glad to hear that things have gone well for this business. This was the first business that I know of that was created to specialize in VRod products and they have built a strong reputation around customer service. The business has grown and he now has five people on his staff.

I hope that 2005 will be a great year for VMod.com and I know that I will be ordering a few of those parts in the near future. Steve, Keep up the great work and best wishes from www.vrodracing.com.
