Patterson first raced a motorcycle in dirt, trying his hand at motocross as a
teenager. His first taste of drag racing came in the mid eighties aboard a Honda
custom V65 Magna the notorious fastest production street bike of the day. After
fifteen years away from motorcycles and racing, Kevin was inspired to return
with the first sight of the new Harley Davidson VRod, modeled after a custom
drag-bike with a new high performance engine created by a joint venture between
Harley Davidson and Porsche. Within a week of buying the bike, with
mandatory break-in mileage under his belt, Kevin returned to the track for the
grand opening of Pittsburgh Raceway Park.The first season started slowly with
five straight first round defeats but end strong with 2 event wins, 4 finals and
one semi-final appearance in the last five events of the year. In 2003 Kevin
hooked up with Terry Sanford and Spirit Harley Davidson a major Pittsburgh area
dealership with a long history of championship racing on a national level. their
first year together the Spirit Racing team made history as Kevin brought home
the gold with both the motorcycle and track championship at Pittsburgh Raceway
Park. This was the first time in the track's history (formerly Keystone
Raceway) for a Harley Davidson to win the motorcycle championship and the first
time for a street bike to take the track championship. 2004 team Spirit took 3rd
place in the points took five event wins and appeared in eight finals. The 2002
custom VROD is a consistent show winner and highly regarded competition to the
field traditionally dominated by highly modified drag bikes and high performance
sport bikes. |
